While criticising the United Democratic Party (UDP) for supporting NPP leader Conrad K Sangma for the CM’s chair, the proscribed Hynniewtrep National Liberation Council (HNLC) said that the decision of the UDP was the most amusing thing to happen.
“It is a matter of surprise instead of promoting our own people for the Chief Minister post, this promoting of Conrad K Sangma as the CM is the biggest blunder committed by the UDP,” HNLC publicity secretary Saiñkupar Nongtraw said in a statement issued here today.
While referring to the the division among the regional forces in the State, he said that this division has allowed AT Mondal to become the first non-indigenous speaker in the history of the state.

Meanwhile, the HNLC also asked what assurance the government can give to the outfit if its cadres surrender.
“We have seen what happened with the ANVC, its cadres surrendered with all their arms and it was also disbanded but what was amusing is that Agreed Text for Settlement was signed on September 24, 2014 but it ended only in promises by the government even after four years,” Nongtraw added.
The HNLC said that the peace pact was just an eye wash and the leaders of the ANVC were misled by both the state as well as the central government.
The proscribed Khasi outfit was ready to give up arms if the government includes the agenda of sovereignty in the peace talks.
“Peace does not only mean end of bloodshed but it also means being free economically, in society and also politically,” Nongtraw added.
