Opposition Leader, Dr Mukul Sangma has slammed the NPP-led Meghalaya Democratic Alliance (MDA) for its failure to deliver the tall promises it had made in the elections even after six months of governance.
“One of the tall promises of the MDA coalition partners was to lift the ban on coal mining within six months. But the ban has not been lifted even though six months have already passed,” Dr Mukul said while talking to media persons here on Wednesday.
The former Chief Minister also lambasted the BJP leaders for claiming to resolve the issue coal ban in the state at the earliest at the time of elections.
The Opposition Leader has also criticised the present government over the way it handled the Them Metor issue.
“The failure of the government to handle the issue has cost the tourism sector of the state,” he said.
Blaming the MDA coalition for costing the state its perception of being a favorable tourist destination, the Opposition Leader said that the failure of the government to handle this small incident has affected the economy of the state.
He also said that the state government is found wanting in removing the distress of the farmers of the state even as he added that the Opposition wanted to raise the issue in the floor of the house but it could not be done due to paucity of time.
“There is also no intervention from the government about helping farmers in the last few months,” he added.
