SHILLONG, March 4:
National People’s Party (NPP) Meghalaya state president, W.R Kharlukhi has been selected as the common candidate of the ruling Meghalaya Democratic Alliance (MDA) for the Rajya Sabha elections. This was decided by the Sub- Committee of the MDA coalition.
Disclosing this information, Chairperson of the Sub- committee, Prestone Tynsong said that after thorough discussions with all the MDA partners, the Sub- Committee came to a consensus that Kharlukhi will be the MDA common candidate for the Rajya Sabha polls.
The Sub-committee in it’s first meeting had failed to come to a consensus on the issue. Meanwhile, an elated Kharlukhi said that he respects the decision of the MDA coalition and looking forward to it.
Meanwhile, leader of the opposition Congress, Dr Mukul Sangma informed that there are many aspirants who are keen to contest but the party is yet to decide.
The election to the lone Rajya Sabha seat in Meghalaya will be held alongside with the other 54 seats to be vacant across 17 States on March 26. The term of the present Rajya Sabha Congress MP, Wansuk Syiem would end on April 12.
