Meghalaya to get Judicial Academy soon; foundation stone laid today

The foundation stone for the construction of the permanent building of the Meghalaya State Judicial Academy (MSJA) was inaugurated today by the Chief Justice of High Court of Meghalaya, Justice Tarun Agarwala, in the presence of Justice S R Sen, Judge of the High Court of Meghalaya, Rangbah Shnong of Umsawli amongst others at Umsawli, Mawpat, Shillong.

The small village of Shyamnagar under Phulbari constituency saw a sea of humanity descend upon the venue of the first ever visit of the prime minister, Narendra Modi to Garo Hills with over 70,000 people coming to witness the PM in poll bound Meghalaya.

Assuring that the BJP had a single agenda of development, the PM assuaged the sentiments of Christians relating examples of how his government had helped Christians whenever there was a situation.

“We have not remained a silent spectator to incidents where Christian missionaries and minority workers have been terrorized in conflict zones,” said Modi while narrating efforts of the rescue of 46 nurses from Kerela when they were kidnapped by terrorists in the conflict zone of Iraq.

Continuing its tirade against the BJP and NPP, the Congress on Thursday alleged that the BJP and RSS are hiding behind the mask of the NPP before election adding that post-election, they will unleash the fury of their ‘sinister’ designs and ‘divisive’ agenda.

“They try to criticize and divert the debate from development to division and it is clear that a vote for the NPP is a vote for the BJP,” senior Congress leader and AICC incharge of Communication Randeep Singh Surjewala told reporters in Shillong on Thursday.

Stating that the NPP, BJP and RSS are all two sides of the same coin, Surjewala said that the BJP has a sinister plan of demolishing the uniqueness, distinct ethnicity, special demography and diversity in customs and languages of the state of Meghalaya.

With the polls just a week away, Prime Minister Narendra Modi will address election rallies in Nagaland and Meghalaya to drum up support for the BJP in the north-eastern states. PM’s first stopover will be in the Tuensang district of Nagaland where he will address a public meeting at 11 am. Later in the day, he is scheduled to address another public meeting in Meghalaya’s Phulbari in West Garo Hills district.

This is PM Modi’s second visit to Phulbari. He had first campaigned at the place in December where had also inaugurated the Shillong-Nongstoin-Tura highway. The area has been tense and kept under high alert after an NCP candidate Jonathone N Sangma was killed in an armed militant attack earlier this week. Security has been beefed up and central armed police forces have been also stationed in Garo Hills.
