Amid criticisms from several quarters over the alleged ‘partiality’ of the police when it comes to handling an accident case which involved a minister’s son, the district police chief on Tuesday clarified that the police’s hands are tight since it is a baliable case and because no FIR was filed by the deceased’s family.
East Khasi Hills SP Davis R Marak said that 28-year-old Aibansharai Nongsiej, son of the state Home Minister, AL Hek was arrested and released on bail as per the guidelines which comes into effect in an accident case which is a baliable offence and owing to the fact that an FIR was not filed since the family of the deceased had refused to do so.
Marak said that there is no need to produce Nongsiej in court as it is baliable offence and police are competent enough to give him bail as long as he is cooperating and since the family was not filing any FIR, so the police took up the case on suo motto.
Talking about the other constable who is currently undergoing treatment at NEIGRIHMS, the SP said that his condition is still serious but he is out of danger.
Meanwhile, CSWO president, Agnes Kharshiing said that the investigation should be conducted debarred of any foul play and express confidence that since the SP is also monitoring the case, a fair investigation will be conducted.
It maybe mentioned that a prison guard was killed while a constable of the MLP battalion was injured when a car driven by Cabinet Minister AL Hek’s son hit their two-wheeler at Fourth Furlong Tri-junction in Polo on Friday night.
