KHADC Chief Executive Member, Pynshngainlang N Syiem today informed that the report of the inquiry has recommended punitive action against the Chief Forest Officer T Saiborne for misappropriating the funds of the Council to the tune of Rs 34 lakh.

It may be mentioned that the Executive Committee in March last year had ordered one man inquiry to be conducted by the Additional Judge of the District Council Court, E.L. Marten after reports of misappropriation of Council funds had surfaced.

Replying during the question hour on the second day of the Council budget session today, Syiem said that the Executive Committee is examining the report of the inquiry officer before taking punitive action against the official of the Chief Forest Officer as per the provision laid down in the Service Rules of the Council adding that the inquiry officer found all the charges against the official to be true.

While replying to the supplementary question of NPP MDC from Nongkrem, HS Shylla, KHADC CEM said that besides the Chief Forest Officer, the other officers who are being investigated over the misappropriation of the Council funds include Deputy Chief Forest Officer M. Lyngdoh, Under Secretary to the Executive Committee Baniwell Lyngdoh and plantation chowkidar Franklin Khymdeit.

To a question on the status of the case raised by Shylla, Syiem said that all the four staffs were immediately suspended after the matter was reported.
