Tura | March 24, 2019
In what will come as a huge surprise to many, Rikman G Momin will be fighting on a BJP ticket after the party decided on his name to take on heavyweights, Agatha Sangma of the MDA and Dr Mukul Sangma of the INC.
Rikman’s name was chosen from four names given to the BJP central executive which took the decision to contest the elections despite being part of the ruling coalition in the state with the NPP. Three more members from Garo Hills, namely, Digross D Shira, Thomas Marak and Dr KC Boro had also expressed interest in contesting the elections on a BJP ticket.
The announcement of Rikman as candidate for Tura came a day after Sanbor Shullai was chosen to represent the party in Shillong. Rikman had earlier contested unsuccessfully for the MLA seat in Rongjeng last year. He is also the state vice president for the BJP.
The final day of nominations is Monday, Mar 25 with April 11 being the day of polling.
In another development Adorsho Sangma will be the BJP party’s candidate for the upcoming Selsella by-elections to be held simultaneously with the ongoing MP elections. Selsella is expected to be a hotly contested seat between the four candidates who are expected to contest – June Eliana R Marak (Congress), Ferlin CA Sangma (NPP), Sayeedullah Nongrum (UDP) and the BJP’s Adorsho.
Adorsho was in the race for a ticket along with Pramod Koch and Bhupen Hajong.
