Meghalaya MLA and Chief Minister Conrad Sangma’s sister, Agatha Sangma on Monday submitted her resignation as member of the House in an attempt to pave way for her brother to contest the bypoll from her constituency — South Tura to enable him to continue as the CM.
Her decision to resign was already predicted and became a reality when she submitted her papers to the Deputy Speaker, Timothy D Shira in the Assembly office on Monday afternoon.
Earlier, Conrad had already made it very clear that he is not returning to Lok Sabha and will continue as the chief minister while it is speculated that his sister will likely contest the upcoming Lok Sabha polls from Tura and return to the Parliament.
Agatha is a former union minister and joined state politics only this year when she won the MLA elections from South Tura, only to give up the seat for her brother, months later.
This scribe tried to get in touch with the former South Tura MLA but to no avail.
