SHILLONG | June 11, 2019:

The local MLA of North Shillong, Adelbert Nongrum on Tuesday criticised the NPP-led MDA government for its ‘failure’ to resolve the pending issue of relocating the settlers from Thew Iew Mawlong.

“It has been more than year since the Government had assured to resolve the issue, but till now it remain unresolved,” Nongrum said while talking to reporters here today.

He further said that the State Government needs to take a bold decision on the relocation of the settlers from Them Iew Mawlong.

The local MLA of North Shillong said, “The people are anxiously waiting for the State Government to resolve the issue. It will be interesting to see if the present Government dares to take a bold decision.”

Pointing out that they are not talking about eviction, he said that they would want the Government to relocate them to another place.

Asserting that the present MDA should stop giving assurances, he said that it is time for the the Government to act.

The local MLA of North Shillong said that the Government can utilise the land at Iew Mawlong for easing the congestion in Iewduh area if they locate them from the area.

Nongrum also questioned the State Government for not appointing him as member in the High Level Committee being the local MLA even as he expressed surprise that the MLAs from the constituency from the outskirts are members in the committee.

“The reason why they did not consider appointing me as member of the committee is because I am not part of the ruling coalition,” he said.
