The High Level Committee (HLC) of the Meghalaya Government in its meeting today decided to ask the Shillong Municipal Board to restart the inventory survey of the Sweepers’ Lane at Them Iew Mawlong.

The State Government had constituted the HLC for finding a permanent solution to the demand of relocating the Sweepers’ Lane from Them Iew Mawlong.

“We have decided to ask the SMB to restart the inventory survey. Our main concern is the 128 employees of the board who are staying in the area,” HLC chairman Prestone Tynsong told media persons after the meeting today.

It may be mentioned the staffs of the SMB did not got the cooperation from the people residing the Sweepers’ Lane during the first inventory survey.  Besides listing the houses, the SMB was supposed to take the head counts of the people residing in the area as part of the exercise. The SMB was not able to make head accounts of the people residing in the area since majority of the houses were locked.
