The 2nd round of the 1st Meghalaya Police Hackathon Event 2019, organised by the state police in collaboration with NIT and St. Anthony’s College, Shillong, was held today at NIT Meghalaya under the theme “Technology for Safety And Security.” The event was inaugurated by SP-CID, Herbert G Lyngdoh.
The main aim of the event is to help young innovators from various fields to develop practical applications to tackle crime, manage law and order as well as ensuring the safety and security of the people.
The event saw a total of 16 teams who presented their concepts in front of an expert panel. Some of these concepts encircled crime against women and children, traffic and parking management, monitoring of fake news, etc.
The panel comprised of Priyanshu Pandey, IPS, SP SF 10, Giri Prasad M, IPS, SDPO Sohra, East Khasi Hills, Dr. Yogita, Head of the Computer Science Department, NIT Meghalaya, Arjun Chetry, Assistant Director IT, North Eastern Police Academy and Dr.Probidita Roychoudury, Head of Computer Science Department St.Anthony’s college. Other officers from CID Meghalaya Police and Faculties from NIT Meghalaya were also present during the event.
The final round of the hackathon is set to be held in the month of February 2020. The participants will showcase the applications they have developed, while the same will be judged by a panel of experts. The winners will receive a cash prize along with a trophy from the Director General of Police, Meghalaya.
Meghalaya Police is among the few State Police Force to conduct such an event allowing young engineers to venture into the field of tackling crime and ensuring safety and security of the people.
