Meghalaya Education Minister, Lahkmen Rymbui on Saturday suggested on the need to carry out a research on the flower/flora species which are unique to the state.
“It will not be a bad idea to carry out a research on the other flower species which are unique to the State. We can also promote other flower species during this cherry blossom festival,” Rymbui said while speaking at the concluding function of the Cherry Blossom festival held at Dalang Open Stage, Polo 5th Ground, Shillong here.
He also suggested that in the years to come, the Government can consider hosting this festival in the midst where these flowers are found in abundance.
“The Government can tie up with the citizens, allowing them to host the festival in their premises where flowers of various kinds are grown in abundance. I think the citizens should not hesitate to join hands with the Government in taking this festival to newer heights in the coming years,” Education Minister further stated.
He, however, said that that the festival has indeed provided a platform to showcase the rich traditions and cultures of the State adding that it has also given a big boost to tourism sector in State.
“Our Chief Minister, during his address on the inaugural function, had also stated that through this festival, a way forward has been carved to strengthen friendly relations between India and Japan,” Rymbui said.
It may be recalled that Chief Minister, Conrad K Sangma had stated that the Indo-Japan collaboration has taken a leap forward because of the efforts that have been made by the Prime Minister of India, Narendra Modi and the Prime Minister of Japan, Shinzo Abe, and also stated that the festival represents one of the ways of strengthening the relationship of the two nations.
Earlier, Director of Institute of Bio Resources and Sustainable Development (IBSD), Government of India, Prof. Dinabandhu Sahoo has expressed satisfaction that this year festival has received an overwhelming response from the people.
He also said that they will organisze the festival on a larger scale in the coming years.
The Education Minister distributed the prizes to the winners of the various competitions.
