A day after Meghalaya went to polls, final tabulations revealed that the total voters turnout in the state has been recorded at 84.86 percent.

This is was disclosed by the State Chief Electoral Officer F.R Kharkongor during a press briefing held in Shillong here today.

It may be mentioned that this year, the percentage has dropped by 3.11 percent as compared to 87.97 percent in the last 2013 assembly elections.

It was informed that the district which recorded the highest number of voters turnout was South West Garo Hills at 91.15 percent followed by West Jaintia Hills which stands at 89.60 percent. The district with the lowest voters turnout is South West Khasi Hills with only 75.08 percent followed by East Khasi Hills with 79.28 percent.

The CEO said that Mookaiaw in West Jaintia Hills recorded the highest voting percentage at 93.21 percent whereas; North Shillong constituency recorded the lowest voting percentage of only 69.79 percent.

Meanwhile, the counting will take place at 11 districts and two at civil subdivision at Mairang and Sohra. The counting will be taken up from 8.00 am onwards on the 3rd of March.

Furthermore, the CEO informed that most likelihood the by-poll for the Kyndong Tuber polling station in West Jaintia Hills will be held tomorrow.

The polling was postponed after human errors were detected in Kyndong Tuber.

Talking to reporters, Kharkongor said that the reports have been submitted by the returning officer and the district election officer at Raliang constituency to the state election department which has been forwarded to the election commission of India.

After studying the report the election commission is likely to decide on the re-polling by today as the counting will take place on the 3rd of March.
