Four persons landed in police net for impersonating as members of a social organisation based in Assam and also as agents of the central government. All for free petrol! It was reported that these men demanded free petrol from the owner of a local petrol pump in Tura in West Garo Hills on Wednesday afternoon.
According to the police, four persons identified as — Troilen Deka, Rahul Chowdary, Kanak Baishya, Pitus R. Marak came to S. C. Das Petrol Pump, Hawakhana in Tura on Wednesday at around 3 pm and asked the owner to fill petrol in a 5 Lt weighing empty can while claiming themselves to be members of the NGO Jana-Jagaran & Welfare Association of Nizarapar, Chandmari, Kamrup Assam.
Furthermore, they also claimed to be officials authorised by Ministry of Consumer Affairs, Food and PD department, Govt of India, to take stock of the ‘very short delivery and adulteration’ of Petrol and Diesel in Garo Hills Region.
Their suspicious movement and their attitude caught the owner’s attention who excused himself from their presence on the pretext of attending to some urgent work and informed the police.
The owner– Surojit Das immediately called the Police Control Room (PCR). Acting on the tip off, the police arrived at the spot and apprehended the 4 individuals. The impersonators have been booked under Sec. 110 of Meghalaya Police Act. for disturbance of public peace and tranquility.
