A wedding revelry turned tragic on Thursday after the car that they were travelling fell off a hill and turned turtle while they were on their way to a wedding party in South Garo Hills.
It was informed that two of the passengers, including a 13 years old boy, of the ill fated vehicle lost their lives in the incident with one succumbing on the spot and the other dying upon reaching the hospital at Sibbari near the border of Bangladesh in SGH. Eighteen others were also seriously injured in the incident wherein 5 of them have been referred to Tura Civil Hospital.
The accident took place in Buga Dongram village in the same district.
While details are still sketchy, the superintendent of police South Garo Hills, Abraham T Sangma informed that the accident took place at about 11:30 am and the injured were rushed to the Sibbari PHC.
“One of the passengers died on the spot. Another died after they reached the hospital. As network is pathetic, we have not been able to get updates on the incident. The wedding party was going from Ramchenga (SGH) to the wedding spot in Wachalgre,” said SP of SGH, Abraham T Sangma.
The victims were travelling in a Bolero Pik-Up (ML-08C 5824) where it was informed that in these villages, vehicles sometimes carry more than 35 people in really crammed up space.
The person who died on the spot has been identified as Krit Ch Sangma of Wachalgre under PO Kapasipara, in SGH and the victim who succumbed to his injuries in the hospital has been identified as Chikam ch Momin (13 yrs)
“The vehicle fell about 30 metres down a hill from the village road, which led to many getting injured. Details are not fully known as the injured were immediately rushed to the nearby Sibbari PHC for treatment. Due to issues of network connectivity, we have not been able to verify details fully,” confirmed the SP.
