TURA | Aug 23, 2019:

In a horrific incident, a woman was found “murdered” and her body dumped near a river at Rajpur under Phulbari PS in West Garo Hills (WGH) on Thursday afternoon.

The woman identified as Narjina Begum (a resident of Tilepara in Rajpur) was apparently killed early morning yesterday, at about 2 am before the recovery of her body last evening. With no information to the contrary, police have classified the death of the woman to be a murder with the prime suspect being the husband of the victim.

Meanwhile, the parents of the victim this afternoon have filed a case of murder against the husband and some more suspects in the murder, though the husband Mominur Islam is currently absconding.

The body was found floating on the river by local residents who then informed the Phulbari Police of the discovery. Police later recovered the body of the victim, though no case had been filed yesterday. The body was then sent for a post mortem before any further investigation was undertaken. Details of the PM report are still awaited.

According to locals, the woman was last seen alone, along the banks of the river where her body was found, by a person. She was alone at the time and was walking along the river, close to the time of her murder.

Fuelled by rumours of the murder being the handiwork of the husband of the victim, police later visited the house of the husband, identified as one Mominur Islam, to question him. The house, however, was locked and Islam missing, leaving him to be the prime suspect in the murder.

A case of murder was filed by the parents of the victim against her husband, Islam as well as a few others in what is fast turning into a full fledged murder case.

Confirming the incident, the superintendent of police, WGH, Dr MGR Kumar said an investigation into the circumstances of the incident was currently on.

“We are trying to get to what occurred and wanted to speak to the husband. However, the prime suspect is absconding. A complete investigation is on and we are treating this as a murder case, until proven otherwise,” said Dr Kumar.
