World Record Holder and BMX rider from Meghalaya, Winward Sangma will be felicitated by the West Garo Hills district administration for creating two world records recently.

The young BMX rider will be felicitated tomorrow in Tura on the occasion of Independence Day.

It may be mentioned that Winward set his first world record with his BMX, a freestyle bike by covering 565 km within 24 hrs.

He created his second world record by becoming the first rider to ride from Besisahar till Tilicho Lake in Nepal, with a single speed BMX bike.

“I am very overwhelmed by the response and recognition and the ride was even more meaningful since it was for a cause which was for the environment and I do hope that more people will come out in support of this culture,” said the 20-yr-old BMX rider.

FIRST STOP: NEPAL | NEXT – JERUSALEM

Winward is also planning a long ride from Shillong to Jerusalem in Oct 2020. “We are planning a trip to Jerusalem next year; I do hope we get sponsors. I have been receiving sponsorship from various brands soon after I completed my trip to Nepal; I hope I will be getting the required support for my next trip,” he said.

Meanwhile, WGH DC Ram Singh has informed that they will propose a Skate Park in Tura for the youths while hoping that they will be able to construct it with the government and private assistance.
